I am a trained Transpersonal Counsellor. Transpersonal Counselling is a humanistic, person-centred approach, which expands the traditional theories about the psyche to include connecting and working with our higher, spiritual self. I was very fortunate to be trained at the Centre of Transpersonal Psychology with Ian Gordon Brown and Barbara Somers. I have also worked with Piero Ferrucci at the Centro di Psicosintesi in Florence.

Transpersonal Counselling is based othe work of C.G. Jung (Analytical Psychology), Carl Rogers (Interactional Psychology), Roberto Assagioli (Psychosynthesis) and Abraham Maslow (Motivation Theory and Self Actualisation) and many others.

The core conditions of person-centred counselling are acceptance, empathy and congruence. A basic belief of this approach is that individuals have within themselves the potential to solve their own problems, especially when provided with an environment which is affirming and respectful. It is not advice giving, but a bringing forth the solutions from themselves.

During a one hour consultation, we see if we can work together, before setting up an initial series – generally six - mutually convenient sessions.

Subsequent sessions may involve guided imagery, dream work and journal keeping among other techniques. The core-conditions of person-centred counselling are acceptance, empathy and congruence. It does not involve giving advice and trying to solve people’s problems for them, but it is a journey of discovery, where the therapist is guide or facilitator and helps the client to find their way to dealing with their own issue or issues.

Although at the beginning, many people are nervous about embarking on this inner journey, they find that facing and working with issues is liberating, self-empowering, frees up energy and lowers stress levels.
